Summary
Washed-cell suspensions of cyclopentanol-grownPseudomonas sp. NCIB 9872 were shown to preferentially biotransform norbornanone to an equivalent lactone of potential use in the synthesis of prostanoid analogues. Conditions to optimise the yield of product, including incubation at pH 7.1–7.35 and at substrate concentrations <15 mM, have been established.
