Abstract
The Bubnov-Galerkin method has been used to solve the problem of the steady flow of a viscous, incompressible fluid past a single roughness element. The solution is studied qualitatively in regard to stability. The additional resistance which arises from a single roughness element is calculated. The determination of the friction stress from the known pressure differential across the single roughness element is considered.
