Abstract
An investigation has been made of the elastic and dissipative characteristics of a Helmholtz resonator. On the basis of an analysis of the equation of the free vibrations in the resonator, and of an experimental investigation of the damping of the vibrations, it is shown that the elastic characteristic of the resonator can be regarded as linear and the dissipative characteristic, as quadratic.
