Abstract

The far infrared spectra of lithium thallium tartrate single crystals have been studied for E//a and E//b at 300 K – 80 K and 5 K. A soft mode has been followed from 21 to 11 cm−1 giving strong evidence that the transition is displacive. A large birefringence is observed.
