Abstract

This paper concerns the effective length of whisker structures used for IR diodes. By means of microwave modelisation, the current on such structures has been measured. The influence of various parameters such as whisker profile, length and bend of the prolongating part has been pointed out. Radiation patterns computed from measured currents are compared to those obtained from approximate traveling wave currents. The conditions are given under which this approximation provide accurate results.
