Checking the pulse characteristic of noise meters by means of short radio pulses

Measurement Techniques Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

The evaluation of the spectral density of short radio pulses by their harmonics reduces the testing of the absolute pulse characteristic of noise meters to the measurement of their frequency and differential attenuation, thus raising the accuracy of testing.

  2. 2.

The application of short radio pulses as signals with a reference spectral density is suitable only for sufficiently narrow band devices (with a tentatively estimated relative bandwidth of F/f not exceeding 0.01).

  3. 3.

The spectrum of a short square-wave radio pulse is sufficiently uniform within the passband of a noise meter, providing the product of the pulse duration by the bandwidth (at a level of 0.5) amounts approximately to 0.1.
