Abstract
The maximum efficiency of a gyromonotron depends on the RF-field and the DC magnetic field distributions in the interaction region of the resonator. A method for optimizing the RF-field distribution is presented by using a ballistic approach. A section of a sin2 electric field distribution is found to be suitable.
