Conclusions
-
1.
Smoothed-out values of the VNIIFTRI mean strain curves of monocrystalline corundum (leucosapphire and ruby) along parallel and perpendicular directions to the optical axis have been tabulated.
-
2.
The trustworthiness of the VNIIFTRI mean curves has been established by comparing them with the published data and with absolute measurements made at the VNIIM. The discrepancy between measurements of specimens which have been previously measured with VNIIFTRI relative dilatometers and the VNIIFTRI mean curves along both crystallographic axes and over the entire range did not exceed 1%.
-
3.
Recent comparison of corundums produced in different years with varying admixtures of Cr2O3, both with and without annealing, have shown that the tested types of corundum (leucosapphires and rubies) have a stable thermal expansion.
