Abstract
Generic subdivision ofCistaceae is in line with ancient dysploid differentiation:Cistus (x = 9),Helianthemum (x = 10),Rhodax (x = 11),Fumana (x = 8),Tuberaria (x = 7), andXolanthes (x = 6). Course of differentiation probably was x = 6 ← 7 ← 8 ← 9 → 10 → 11. The tendency is from symmetrical to asymmetrical karyotypes. Infraspecific karyotype diversity is greater in allogamous perennials than in autogamous annuals. Polyploidy ranges from ancient to quite recent.
