Conclusions

  1. 1.

Measurement of race profiles using the circlegauge and the author's technique provides a means of determining the magnitude and character of deviations from the design profile, having sufficient accuracy for industrial practice.

  2. 2.

Measurement of the true race profile may contribute to a clarification of the reasons for the significant variation in the useful lives of all bearings and for their running out of order, with the result of contact fatigue of the metals.
