Measurement of holes by the absolute interference methods

  • Published:
Measurement Techniques Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

The method thus developed provides the highest precision of all existing methods for measuring diameters of holes (the error does not exceed 0.05μ).

  2. 2.

The method can be applied for testing basic reference ring gauges, thus providing the upper link in the chain for transmitting dimensions from the reference standard to the diameters of holes in products.

  3. 3.

It is possible and advisable to develop a system for transmitting the dimensions of cylindrical holes from reference standards to products by means of graded ring gauges with corresponding methods for their testing.

  4. 4.

In order to adopt the above method in testing practice it is necessary to develop and produce several reference installations and to organize the manufacture of ring gauges made of quartz, pyroceramic, glass, or other transparent and sufficiently hard and stable materials.
