The relation of solvent heats of mixing to the enthalpies of proton transfer of some amines in methanol-water mixtures

Abstract

Enthalpies of reaction for proton transfer in methanol-water mixtures are related to the enthalpies of mixing of methanol and water. The data are direct calorimetric measurements of the standard enthalpies of proton transfer in methanol-water mixtures of varying composition using the bases quinuclidine triethylamine, and tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane. Other possible applications of the principle are mentioned.
