Conclusions

The reaction of hypophosphorous acid with benzaldehyde in benzene gives bis (α-hydroxybenzyl)phosphinic acid and 5-hydroxy-5-oxo-2,4,6-triphenyl-l,3,5-dioxaphosphorinane.
