Conclusions

  1. 1.

The degree of anion exchange has been determined in the reaction of benzyltriethylammonium hydroxide formation by the interaction of benzyltriethylammanium chloride with a concentrated aqueous NaOH solution.

  2. 2.

An analysis has been made of the factors influencing the concentrations of chloride and hydroxyl ions in the organic phase in the presence of caustic, and it has been shown that there is transfer of NaOH to the organic phase.

  3. 3.

A study has been made of the joint solubility of benzyltriethylammonium hydroxide and chloride in acetone-benzene mixtures with various compositions, and an equation has been found for the dependence of the solubility on the benzene concentration.

  4. 4.

A study has been made of the extraction of benzyltriethylammonium chloride and hydroxide by acetonebenzene mixtures with various compositions, under conditions of interfacial catalysis. The concentrations of Cl and OH ions in the organic phase are governed by the solubilities of the salt and the hydroxide and also by the rate of the exchange processes between the water and the organic phase.
