1.
From their1H and13C NMR spectra, polymers of 1,2-dimethylenecyclobutane obtained by radical polymerization contain 85–90% of units containing the cyclobutene and 10–15% of units with the methylenecyclobutane structure.

2.
The presence in the polymer of 1,2-dimethylenecyclobutane of cyclobutene units capable of isomerizing on heating to 150°C to give exodiene structures enables it to undergo thermal cross-linking and addition of maleic anhydride.
