Conclusions

  1. 1.

Polyfluorinated 1-alkyl-, 1,1-, and 1,2-dialkylbenzocyclobutenes were obtained by the interaction of perfluorinated benzocyclobutene and 1-methylbenzocyclobutene with tetrafluoroethylene, trifluorochloroethylene, and perfluoropropylene in the presence of SbF5. The ratio of 1,1- and 1,2-isomers was changed in favor of the latter on going from CF2=CF2 to CF2=CFCl and CF2=CFCF3.

  2. 2.

The perfluoro-1-benzocyclobutenyl cation was generated on dissolving perfluorobenzocyclobutene in SbF5 or in the system SbF5-SO2FCl.
