Conclusions
The radiation copolymerization of N-phenylmaleimide with styrene in acetone at room temperature proceeds with the formation of a complex of the growing polymer radical with the monomer in an intermediate step as indicated by anomalously high specific heats of copolymerization and the reaction order of one-half relative to the monomer.
