Conclusions
-
1.
A thermodynamic theory of elastic (reversible) strain of sorbents during equilibrium sorption has been developed.
-
2.
A rigorous expression has been obtained for the relation of the relative strain (ξ) to the value of the equilibrium sorption (a); of necessity, the curve of this relation has an initial region of negative sorbent strains, and the derivative (dξ/da)a =0=-∞.
-
3.
The nonlinear relation of the ratio ξ/a to the logarithm of the equilibrium volatility of the equilibrium gas phase indicates that the coefficient of uniform compression is related to the sorption value.
