Conclusions
-
1.
We have carried out an x-ray diffraction and spectral investigation of p-difluoromethylsulfo-[N'-(5-nitrofurfulidene)]benzohydrazide, displaying photochemical activity in the solid phase. We have shows that in the crystal this compound has a polar cis conformation, stabilized as a result of formation of a 1:1 crystal hydrate.
-
2.
We have shown that the inactive form of this compound has a different crystal sturcture which does not contain water molecules.
-
3.
On the basis of the data obtained, we have discussed the proposal that cooperative intermolecular phototransfer of the amide proton of one molecule may occur through the water molecules along the chain of H bonds to the oxygen atom of the carbonyl group of another molecule.
