Analysis of the normal vibrations of the cyclopentadienyl anion

Conclusions

  1. 1.

The frequencies and forms of the normal vibrations of the anion C5H5 have been calculated on the basis of new experimental results, using as a zeroth approximation the force field of benzene.

  2. 2.

The difference between the frequencies of the νCC vibrations of the class A1′ in the Cp anion and in benzene and the inversion of the frequencies of the degenerate vibrations in the spectrum of C5H5 are largely attributable to kinematic factors, primarily to the change in the internal angle of the ring.
