Temperature dependence of the hysteresis loop in capillary condensation

A new experimental method of studying capillary condensation events in a wide range of temperatures and pressures was developed.
Ten isotherms of adsorption and desorption of n-pentane on mesoporous silica gel in the −40 to 170°C temperature range (from 0.50 to 0.95 T/Tcr) were measured.
It was shown that the width of the capillary condensation hysteresis loop with constant filling should be extremely dependent on the temperature. The experimental data satisfactorily confirm the theoretical calculation.
