Conclusions

The formation of the nine-coordinate complex of Dy2(FACAM)6 with dimethylformamide having the formula Dy2(FACAM)6 .3DMFA has been discovered for the first time in solution with the aid of linear paramagnetic birefringence. An adduct with the formula Dy(FACAM)3 .2DMFA apparently forms in an excess of DMFA as a result of monomerization.

According to the data from the method of paramagnetic birefringence, the complex Dy(FACAM)3 .2DMFA has a structure with an octahedral arrangement of the chelate rings. In the complex Dy2(FACAM)6 .3DMFA the orientation of the chelate rings is intermediate between trigonal-prismatic and octahedral.
