Conclusions

  1. 1.

As a result of investigation of the multiple ATR IR spectra of mixtures in the CH3-SO3H-CH3SO3Na system it was found that a broad continuous absorption band appears in the region of 1000–4000 cm−1. It was found that the anion of the salt combines with an acid molecule to form a complex with a strong quasisymmetric hydrogen bond: (CH3O2SO... H... OSO3CH3) The concentrations of these complexes and of the acid which solvates them were determined.

  2. 2.

The hydration numbers of the ions in aqueous solutions of methanesulfonic acid and in aqueous solutions of its salt were determined from the overtone vibrations of the water molecules in the UR spectra; differences in the hydration of the anion in these systems were not observed.
