Conclusions
A reaction scheme is proposed for the photochromic conversions of 1',3'-dihydro-1',3',-3'-trimethyl-6-nitrospiro[2H-1-benzopyran-2,2'-[2H]indole] in the presence of acids. It has been shown that the reaction proceeds through an intermediate obtained by the interaction of the cis-cisoid iosmer of the spiropyran with the acid.
