Conclusions

  1. 1.

Paramagnetic complexes containing the SiF3 group were obtained by the interaction of TFS with orthobenzoquinones, and the properties of these complexes were investigated. The ESR spectra indicate that the geometry of these complexes corresponds to a trigonal bipyramid.

  2. 2.

In the presence of donor molecules or anions, the geometry of the original complexes is changed; the trigonal bipyramidal structure is converted to an octahedral structure.

  3. 3.

The structure of the pyrocatechol ligands influences the geometry of the hexacoordinated complexes that are formed. In the case of symmetrical ligands, the ESR spectra correspond to the octahedral structure. For unsymmetrical ligands, the octahedron is distorted toward a trigonal prism. The geometry of the pentacoordinated complexes is independent of the structure of the pyrocatechol ligand.
