Conclusions
-
1.
In the addition of gem-trichloroalkanes to α-olefins in isopropanol initiated by Fe(CO)5, Mo(CO)6, and Mn2(CO)10, the most effective was Fe(CO)5. Mo(CO)6 and Mn2(CO)10 gave lower yields of adducts.
-
2.
The nature of the metal carbonyl influences the ratio of the products of cleavage of chlorine and hydrogen atoms by the radical-adduct ClCH2CH2CCl2CH2CHC4H9.
-
3.
Fe(CO)5 and Mo(CO)6 are inactive in the reaction of gem-trichloroalkanes with α-olefins in the absence of the cocatalyst isopropanol, whereas Mn2(CO)10 also initiates this reaction without a cocatalyst.
-
4.
1-Hexene retards the reduction of 1,1,1,3-tetrachloropropane by isopropanol when the reaction is initiated by Mn2(CO)10.
