Conversion of methanol and some other oxygen-containing compounds into aromatic hydrocarbons and components of high-octane fuel

  • Published:
Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Division of chemical science Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

A high catalytic activity has been shown for a number of indigenous high-silica zeolites: TsVK-I, TsVK-III, TsVM, and a boron-containing silicate in the total conversion of methanol to hydrocarbons. The most effective catalysts are the boron-containing silicate and NTsVM modified by Group VIII metals.

  2. 2.

Like methanol, a number of other oxygen-containing compounds (ethers, ketones) as well as ethylene are converted into aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons in the presence of high-silica zeolites to form reaction products of similar qualitative composition.

  3. 3.

It is postulated that under the conditions studied the compounds investigated are converted into the cited hydrocarbons according to a single scheme.
