Conclusions

It was determined by EPR that prolonged photolysis of Mo(CO)6 solutions in the presence of 3,5-di-tert-butyl-o-quinone and 3,6-di-tert-butyl-o-quinone form paramagnetic molybdenum complexes containing the oxymolybdate group as well as orthoquinone ligands.

It is suggested that the oxygen in the oxymolybdate group is derived from the o-quinones.
