Conclusions

  1. 1.

A quantitative estimate has been made of the difference in ring strain energy between saturated cyclic compounds and the respective radicals in which the free valence is localized on an atom that forms the ring.

  2. 2.

The enthalpies of formation of radicals and the dissociation energy of the corresponding bonds have been calculated for a series of unconjugated cyclic compounds. The relationship between bond dissociation energy and ring strain energy in the homologous series of these compounds has been discussed.
