Conclusions
-
1.
Investigation of 17 different heteropoly compounds of tungsten and molybdenum confirms that the capability for spontaneous evolution of hydrogen from water is a quite general property of the reduced forms of such compounds in acidic aqueous and aqueous alcoholic solution.
-
2.
The reduced formed of mixed-ligand HPAs and HPAs with various central atoms evolve hydrogen at similar rates (within the limits of an order of magnitude). At the same time, the degree of reduction required for spontaneous hydrogen evolution depends substantially on the nature of the HPA.
