NMR study of conjugation effects 15.13C-13C spin-spin coupling constants in phenyl alkyl ether

13C-13C SSCC were measured for a series of phenyl alkyl ethers. The values through the bond between C2 and C3 in mono substituted benzenes most clearly reflect the π-electron interaction of the aromatic ring with the substituent, provided the latter contains no atoms from a period of the periodic table higher than the second.
