Conclusions

  1. 1.

Depending on the nature of the heterocycle, the heterocyclic part of a spiropyran molecule may serve either as a donor or as an acceptor of electronic excitation energy.

  2. 2.

The rate constant for the rupture of the C-O bond in the singlet excited state of the chromene part of the molecule is independent of temperature.
