Conclusions

  1. 1.

Visual observations by means of equipment made of optically transparent materials (diamond and sapphire) have shown that the chemical conversions of nitriles take place at the moment of sample deformation, and that they are not the consequence of post-effects.

  2. 2.

The reactivity of nitriles changes with the pressure, and the reactivity is also affected by the presence of additives. Additives that have a high shearing stress stimulate the conversions of the nitriles, and those having a low shearing stress reduce the activity of the nitriles under conditions of shear deformation at high pressures (SD+HP).

  3. 3.

The reactivity of nitriles depend to a considerable degree on their structure, and their reactivity increases when C=C bonds or aromatic rings are present.

  4. 4.

Analysis of the structure of the products indicates that under conditions of SD+ HP, the following reactions take place: opening of C≡N bonds with the formation of C=N groups, cleavage of aromatic rings, and interactions related to proton transfer.
