Conclusions
The thermolysis of the reaction products of Fe(CO)5 with sodium amalgam in diglyme under certain conditions leads directly to Na2[Fe5(CO)14]. The latter in diglyme solution exhibits a high reactivity toward metal carbonyls and their derivatives, and also toward electron-unsaturated organometallic compounds, forming octahedral heteronuclear clusters.
