Conclusions

A new, efficient method has been devised for determining the structure of polyunsaturated hydrocarbons and polymers by ozonizing them in a volatile solvent with subsequent contact between the peroxide products and Lindlar's catalyst in a hydrogen atmosphere and preoxidation of the aldehydes formed with an ozone-oxygen mixture in ethyl acetate or hydrogen peroxide in the presence of SeO2 in tert-butanol.
