Conclusions

  1. 1.

    An x-ray structural study has been performed on the complex Ph3PO·HNO3, and its IR spectra have been examined.

     
  2. 2.

    In the crystalline state, a molecular complex is realized, with a strong, forked H-bond.

     
  3. 3.

    The properties of the complex change very markedly when there is a change in the state of aggregation or replacement of the solvent; this is related to the easy polarizability of the bonds in the NO3 fragment.
