Conclusions

  1. 1.

Co catalysts that are active in the synthesis of hydrocarbons from CO and H2 are those on which the adsorption of H2 exceeds 3·10−2 mmole/g Co and the adsorption of carbon monoxide exceeds 7·10−2 mmole/g Co.

  2. 2.

Carbon monoxide and hydrogen are adsorbed on active catalysts in weakly bound forms.

  3. 3.

A mechanism is proposed for the formation of an active center and the adsorption of carbon monoxide on Co-catalysts which includes the appearance of a partial positive charge on the cobalt atom.
