Conclusions

  1. 1.

The polarization characteristics of fluorescence and phosphorescence have been measured for 1,4-bis(4,5-diphenyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl)benzene in 1-propanol at 77°K.

  2. 2.

The S0 → S1 transition is due to oscillation of charge in the π-conjugated system of the molecule along its long axis; the S0 → S2 transition is localized in the imidazole fragments.
