Conclusions

1.
It has been shown that the adsorption of thiophene and its methyl derivatives on H-mordenite at 20° is accompanied by the formation of radicals that give individual ESR spectra with a hyperfine structure; replacement of the sulfur atom by oxygen does not have any substantial effect on the distribution of the unpaired electron in the radical species.
-
2.
A comparison of the parameters of hyperfine structure of the ESR spectra of adsorbed thiophene radicals with the results obtained in quantum-chemical calculations has shown that when thiophene or its derivatives are adsorbed on H-mordenite, anion-radicals are formed.
-
3.
The formation of thiophene anion-radicals is confirmed by experiments on the joint adsorption of thiophene with SO2 acceptor molecules on H-mordenite.
