Theoretical description of the kinetics of sorption on spherical sorbent granules, for certain types of actual sorption isotherms

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    A method is proposed for obtaining simple approximation expressions for the kinetic curves for certain real sorption isotherms in the case in which mass transfer through transport pores is the limiting step in the sorption process.

  2. 2.

    This method has been used to obtain a solution of the sorption kinetics problem for spherical grains of a biporous sorbent with rectangular isotherm and arbitrary values of the characteristic times τi and τa.

  3. 3.

    Theoretical equations have been developed for use in interpreting the results of both gravimetric kinetic experiments and experiments on x-ray scattering from granules during sorption of x-ray-contrasting compounds.
