Conclusions

The previously unknown [η5-C5H5Re(CO)2Hg]4, η5-C5H5Re(CO)2(HgI)2, and η5-C5H5Re-(CO)2(HgBr)2 were synthesized by us. The structure of [η5-C5H5Re(CO)2Hg]4 was established by RSA. The [η5-C5H5Re(CO)2Hg]4 molecule has an unusual tetrameric structure with alternating Hg atoms and cis-[η5-C5H5Re(CO)2] fragments.

The reaction of the complexes [η5-C5H5Re(CO)2Hg]4 and [η5-C5H5Re(CO)2HG·1/3C6H6]4 with I2, Br2, MeCOOH, Me3I, PPh3, and HCl was studied.

The complexes η-C5H5Re(CO)2 (HgBr)2 and η5-C5H5Re(CO)2 (HgI)2 are reduced by NaBH4 to η5-C5H5Re(CO)2H2.
