Conclusions

1.
The C9H7 + ion label retention in the mass spectra of 2-C10H7 13CH2X compounds (X= H, Cl, Br, OH, OCH3, OCOCH and 2-C10H7 13CH2) increases with increasing internal energy of the C11H9 + ions, the latter estimated from the ratio of the peak intensities for C9H7 + ions formed in metastable and normal transitions.

2.
The fragmentation pattern is dependent not only on the structure of the principal structural fragment in the parent compound but also on the internal energy of the dissociating ion, a factor markedly affected by even relatively slight changes in the compound structure.
