Conclusions

tert-Aliphatic amines, such as dimethylaminoethyl propionate (DMAEP) and dimethyl-butylamine (DMBA), oxidize through a radical-chain mechanism. Absolute rate constants for chain extension and rupture in such processes have been measured at 30–60°C.

The oxidation-reduction properties of the α-aminoperoxide radicals (RO2 .) lead to regeneration of the organic inhibitors for chain rupture in the oxidation of DMAEP and DMBA. Stoichiometric inhibitor coefficients and rate constants for the reactions of amine RO2 . with various classes of inhibitors have been measured at 50°C.
