Conclusions

  1. 1.

The addition of mercuric acetate toα-ethoxyacrylic acid in alcohol medium proceeds with the formation of an inner salt, the Hg-C bond in which is foundβ to the carboxyl group.

  2. 2.

The methoxymercuration of acrylic and cinnamic acids leads to the formation of inner mercury salts in which the Hg-C bond isα to the carboxyl group.
