Communication 15. Mechanism of the degradation of polymers under the action of free radicals

Summary

  1. 1.

    The greatest effect is produced in the degradation of polymers by free radicals that are particularly active in H-atom removal reactions.

  2. 2.

    The degradation of polymers under the action of free radicals is probably due to successive acts of a) removal of a hydrogen atom from the polymer chain, and b) spontaneous breakdown at a C-C bond of die polymeric radical formed, in the first act.
