Conclusions

  1. 1.

    The polarizability parameters of the thiocyanate group were determined.

  2. 2.

    Phenyl thiocyanate has a planar conformation in solution. Its derivatives, with donor substituents in the p position of the ring, are characterized by a nearly coplanar arrangement of SCN and the ring. Acceptor substituents facilitate a withdrawal of the system from the plane.
