Conclusions
-
1.
The kinetics of the free-radical interaction of methallyl chloride with CCl4, catalyzed at 95° by iron pentacarbonyl or by the system Fe(CO)5-dimethylformamide, was studied.
-
2.
A mechanism was proposed for homogeneous catalysis of the reaction, including steps of coordination of the monomer or solvent on the iron atom and transfer of a chlorine atom from the intermediate radical to the reduced form of the catalyst.
