Conclusions

  1. 1.

The action of C2H5ONa or t-C4H9ONa on C5H5CoB9H9C2HCHO leads to splitting of the CHO group with the formation of C5H5CoB9H9C2H2.

  2. 2.

The reaction of C5H5CoB9H9C2HCHO with Grignard reagents proceeds stereoselectively, and leads to diastereoisomeric secondary alcohols.

  3. 3.

The action of LiAlH4 and H2AlCl on C5H5CoB9H9C2HCH(OH)R causes hydrogenolysis of the CHOH group with the formation of C5H5CoB9H9C2HCH2R.
