Abstract
The techniques and artistry of initiating and terminating therapeutic encounters have been disproportionately represented in the literature of strategic therapy. This paper, using the patient's own report, illustrates the middle phase of therapy in the case of a severe marital difficulty. Central to the final outcome was a paradoxical instruction which, following the patient's own report, is discussed with regard to this case and as a general category of prescription.
