Abstract

The ultrastructure of the cuticle and terminal appendages of larvalReighardia sternae (Pentastomida) is described. The thin cuticle has a simple ultrastructure and shows a rough surface created by small projections. The terminal appendages are sensory organs with features typical of arthropod sensilla. Their cilia basally have a 9×2+0 configuration. Their possible role in the larval period is discussed.

Zusammenfassung

Der ultrastrukturelle Aufbau der Cuticula und der Terminalanhänge larvalerReighardia sternae (Pentastomida) wird dargestellt. Die sehr dünne Cuticula weist eine durch kleine wellenartige Erhebungen aufgerauhte Oberfläche auf. Die Terminalanhänge sind Sensillen mit einer Ultrastruktur, wie sie für Euarthropoden typisch ist. Die Cilien haben basal eine 9×2+0-Konfiguration. Ihre Bedeutung für das larvale Leben wird diskutiert.
